Mt. Diablo State Park

Mt. Diablo State Park

Towering over the East Bay, Mt. Diablo is a mountain in the Diablo Range which is 3,849 feet high and is the focal point of Mt. Diablo State Park. The mountain and some 20,000 acres around it became a state park in 1921 and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1982. It’s history, however, goes back many hundreds of years. The mountain was considered sacred by the Native American tribes who lived in the area, including the Ohlone and the Miwok. Northgate Road, which borders the NHOA to the east, is the northern entrance to the park.
